Heeeeey. Just wondering... are you a writer? Want to pump up your town? Want to write for the Nugget?

I have been, frankly, swamped. New job, school hols, flood at MainFM.

I considered laying the Nugget to rest in the squelchy clay I have been trudging through in recent weeks.

Instead, I will try opening the doors to partners in crime. This town has got to be crawling with storytellers. All ages are welcome, including the youths.

I'm after stories about events happening around Castlemaine and the magical people behind them.

❀ Local bands drop new albums ❀

Sending big love to The Maes and Bad Debts. Both bands released new albums this week.

The Maes’ Elsie and Maggie Rigby grew up in Castlemaine.

They are launching their new album, Abreast, at the Theatre Royal on Saturday and the show is sold out.

The track, Hannah, has a busting-to-get-out vibe that feels right for a Friday, plus some spot-on lines: “There’s nothing but hippies and abattoirs in this single-high-school town.” 👀

Bad Debts are the Americana rock to the Maes’ folk. The Castlemaine boys’ new album, Under Kalimna Skies, is gloriously jangley. I am sure Josh Meadows from the MainFM show It’s a Jangle Out There, has it on repeat. Harlequin Days is my fave track. Have a listen:
