★ MEET A LOCAL ENERGY HEALER ★

Suzi van Dorenmalen

Suzi van Dorenmalen's first steps toward learning what she was truly capable of started with a move into a blue house on a quiet street.

"We effectively weren't alone. The father in the family that had been there before us had died in a house fire and his essence had moved to the house with them."

Suzi's young son picked up on it. He could see the unseen and sense spirits, which scared Suzi.

"I didn't want him to be fearful like I was when I had encountered such things as a child," Suzi said.

"There was a psychic expo in town, so I went, put down my 50 bucks and said to the woman, 'So, there's someone in our house, who is it?'"

Suzi didn't get the information she needed, so she set out on a search into forces she had long avoided.

"I've always been sensitive to energy. It had been a fear of mine since I was a kid, because I didn't understand it. I didn't understand what I was seeing, so I shut it down."

But for the sake of a peaceful life in the blue house, which was in a small town near Swan Hill, Suzi decided it was time to confront her fears, do some research and have a conversation with the guy.

"I sat down and lit a candle and invited Archangel Michael in and said, 'OK, can you help this guy out.' I said out loud that I found out where his family had moved to and said 'you don't belong here anymore. This is where your family are and it's time for you to move on.' I asked him to leave and he did."

That experience set Suzi on a path of enquiry. A teacher came her way and she connected with an intuitive development group in Daylesford who she practiced with for a number of years.

"It was about honing the skills I already had, getting answers to questions and not feeling like I had two heads."

Suzi and her family moved to Castlemaine from Swan Hill in January, 2016, in search of a cool change and a culture change. She did a conventional "muggle" job in town, while starting her energy healing practice.

"I got brave one day and asked for a seat at The Readers in Daylesford."

She began providing intuitive readings with oracle cards.

"I did about 500 readings in 18 months. It was a crash course in dealing with people, a vast variety of people. Learning how to converse and ask questions and inquire in my own mind about how to ask things and interpret what I was seeing and sensing. It was incredibly valuable."

By 2019, she was able to leave the muggle job and devote her time to her energy healing business.

Today, she runs a thriving ThetaHealing practice from her studio in Campbells Creek, where she also teaches Reiki, runs intuitive development workshops and performs energy clearing on homes and businesses.

Suzi works with people who have experienced physical and emotional trauma, troubling relationships and have limiting beliefs and patterning.

A session typically begins with a chat about what the client wants to work on and what Suzi is seeing in their energy field.

Clients then relax on the healing bed and Suzi drops into "Theta mode" - a state that allows her to read the energy and see it shift. She describes the emotions and intuitive impressions she receives.

About 65% of her clients are face-to-face, with people travelling from Melbourne, Bendigo and Daylesford to see her. She also works with clients remotely, over Zoom, from places like New Zealand, the U.K. and America.

"People value what I do and it's very humbling. I get an amazing insight into people's lives and how things can impact people energetically as well as mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually."

She finds she doesn't have to promote her work. Most of her business comes from word of mouth, thanks to clients who tell others about their valuable experiences with Suzi.

"I'm often booked out weeks in advance."

Her business really took off during the turbulence of covid. For many, the holiday period is also a turbulent time. Suzi has good insights about how to survive the silly season.

"You've got your own personal energy and then there is the collective consciousness. Around the holidays there is just a frantic energy.

"We often run on expectation and obligation. People can feel they aren't allowed to choose themselves. It's a societal thing. I remind people it's ok to take time out. Give yourself permission to tap out if you need to."

She teaches people in her Inner Sight series that the world can be going crazy but you don't have to.

"You can still be in your energetic sumo suit and maintain your own healthy energy bubble around you. Stay grounded. Be the observer. It's like flexing a muscle. It takes practice."
